Betty Jane Austin Hamer, 82, of 4933 Maple Grove Rd., passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at Cuba Skilled Nursing facility, following a lengthy illness. Born May 26, 1932 in Richburg, she was the daughter of Charles Ray and Rose F. DeRemer Taylor Sr. In Friendship, she was married to Hanford Austin who predeceased her. On November 6, 1964 in West Clarksville, she married William W. Hamer who predeceased her on May 30, 2005.
Betty had resided in various places in Allegany Co. and had attended school in Shinglehouse, PA. Over the years she raised her family and baby sat for many families in the area. For many years she was employed at the Farnsworth Cookie factory in Cuba.
She enjoyed crocheting but most of all loved her family and being with them.
Surviving are two sons, Randy (Susan Edwards) Taylor of Cuba, and Stephen W. Hamer of Olean; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers, Earnest W. Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, PA, and
James I. Taylor of Ceres, PA; a sister, Joyce Marie (Leon) Nowicki of Cheektowaga; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Taylor and Norman Taylor.
Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship from 4-6 pm Monday March 30, 2015 at which time (6:00 pm) funeral and committal services will be held at the funeral home. The Rev. Bruce Ireland, pastor of the Shinglehouse, PA Country Chapel Baptist Church, will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Cuba Fire Dept. Cuba NY 14727.
