Betty Lou Gant, 82, of Scio passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Highland Health Care Center, Wellsville, following a brief illness. Born May 29, 1930 in Allentown, NY, she was the daughter of Clair H. and Thelma A. Dake Lathrop. On April 17, 1954 in Fillmore, she married J. Gail Gant Sr. who predeceased her on 3-1-06.
Betty had resided most of her life in the Belfast - Scio areas and was a graduate of Canandaigua Central School, class of 1947. For many years she was a nurses aid at the Allegany Co. Infirmary in Angelica and for several years a nurse's aid at Mary's Nursing Home in Wellsville. Later a nurse's aid at Cuba Memorial Hospital.
She enjoyed reading and playing cards.
She was a member the Belfast Robert W. Howden American Legion Auxiliary Post # 1504, and the Cuba VFW Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, John (Joannne) Gant Jr of Belmont; two daughters, Cindy Lou (Steve) Hogan of Scio, and Carolyn Gordon of Friendship;
13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Harry C. Lathrop of Rochester; a sister, Juanita (Vincent) Capauno of Batavia;
and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by a sister, Arlene (Charlie) Constatino.
Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday where funeral and committal services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 1:00 pm. The Pastor Dick Helms of Wellsville will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast. Memorials may be made to Highland Healthcare Center, activities Dept.
