Elsie J.Trites DuVal, 98, of 7213 Hughes Rd. , passed away at Manor Hills Assisted living home in Wellsville Wednesday August 27, 2014, following a lengthy illness. Born June 4, 1916 at Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of Weyman and Gertrude Geldart Trites.In 1944 she married Dolor Jay DuVal who died in April 1,1988.
Grew up in Canada and attended High School and Mt A. University in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. For several years she traveled to Russia to put on her Christmas dramas which she had written and directed.
She loved writing books, poems and writing children's stories. She had her first work "Adventures under the stars" published at the age of 15 and continued writing until the present time.
Elsie belonged to the Belfast 1st Baptist Church, the Trites International Society and the PEO Sorority.
Surviving are a daughter, Josephine L. Tyler of Belfast; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Greenlee Conliglio of NJ, and Patricia Cornelius of Connecticut; and nieces and nephews, Lyall, Gurney, Kenneth, Bud and Glenn Trites, and Joan Saxburg and Judy Wilson.
Elsie was predeceased by a grandson John Greenlee; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast Tuesday September 2, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Dr. Stephen Spink of Belfast will officiate and burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg, VA. Memorials may be made to the Belfast Ambulance Squad or Wellsville Ambulance Squad.
