Frederick H. "Fred" Southwick, 82 passed away Friday, April 11, 2015 at his home following a lengthy illness. Born January 27, 1933 in Friendship, he was the son of Clarence H and Ida Ellsworth Southwick. On August 14, 1954 in Richburg, he married the former Shirley M. Harris, who survives.
Fred had grown up the Friendship area, attended Friendship school and graduated
from the71st School District in Fayetteville, NC. He had resided in various areas in the United States and in 1951 returned to Friendship. Later he moved to Richburg, returning to Friendship in 1965. For several years he worked for the railroad and for a short period of time he was employed at Allegany Co. highway Dept. Later he was employed at Friendship Diaries for over 40 years where he eventually became a business manager, retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed traveling, motorcycle riding, snow mobiling, and watching TV. He loved his cat, Chuck very much, but most of all he loved his family and being with them.
He was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church, member of the Friendship Fire Dept. and a past member of the Friendship Ambulance Squad both for over 20 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Shirley are a son, Geary L. (Nancy) Southwick of Brownstown, PA; two daughters, Trudy M. Chatel of Friendship, and Anna L. (Terry) Archbold of Nile;
six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Mary L. (Eugene) Perry of Chenango Bridge, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by a brother, Lee Southwick; and three sisters, Lillian Taylor, Edna Freeman and Ethel Southwick.
Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship from 2-4 and 7-9 Monday April 13, 2015 where funeral and committal services will be held Tuesday April 14, 2015 at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship. Memorials may be made to the Friendship Fire Dept. or the Friendship Ambulance Squad.
