James A. “Jim” Jelleson

James A. “Jim” Jelleson, 85, of 22 South St., Belfast, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Born April 30, 1936 in Friendship, NY, he was the son of Amos and Viola Collins Jelleson. On September 8, 1956 at St. Patrick’s Church in Belfast, he married the former Mary N. Harrington, who survives.

Jim had resided most of his life in Belfast. He attended the Belfast Central School, graduating with the class of 1954. He served with the Army during the Vietnam war. Returning to Belfast, he and Mary ran a store on Main St. in Belfast, called J and T Western Wear for several years. Later he operated a store in Olean with the same name. In later years he was employed at Ameron Co. in Buffalo for a period of ten years. Also, Jim was an auctioneer in the Belfast area.

Jim loved horses and at one time owned 10 of them. He also loved to watch sports on TV. His favorites were the Buffalo Bills and the Yankees. He also loved his family and spending time with them.

He was a member of the Belfast Robert Howden American Legion post 1504 and a past member of the Belfast School Central Board.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary are a son, Terry (Jodi) Jelleson of Medina, OH; 2 daughters, Joan M. (Donald) Cobb of Belfast and Glenda (Cyrus) Katrak of Concord, CA; 9 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Kuhn; and 2 brothers, Richard Jelleson and Roger Jelleson.

Friends may call Monday April 10,2022 at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast from 9-10 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am at St. Patrick’s Church in Belfast. The Rev. Dennis Mancuso, Pastor, will be celebrant and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast.
