James MacAlister

James MacAlister, 62 of 41 Depot St., Friendship passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Jones Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born October 26, 1952 in Wellsville, he was the son of Raymond and Ernestine Buchanan Burch. On April 17, 2001, in Hinsdale, he married the former Mary A. Johnson who survives.

Jim had grown up in Bolivar and had attended the Bolivar Central School, receiving his GED at a later time. At the age of sixteen, he joined the Army, eventually becoming an Air Borne Ranger, unit 506. Following his army time, he was employed at the amusement park at Darien Lake, where he was severely injured in an accident there that has affected his health up until the present time.

He enjoyed working on his computer, especially doing his family tree and hunting. His greatest love was his family and being with them.

He was a life member of all American Legions in the United States.

Surviving besides his wife are two step sons, Stephen W. Hamer of Wellsville, and Jerod A. Hamer of Friendship; a granddaughter; a stepbrother, Gary Buchanan of Bradford, PA; two sisters, Beverly (Bill) Morris of Olean, and Linda (Tim Finch) Burch of Little Genesee; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Kevin Dimpfl of Friendship.

Jim was predeceased by his father, Rayden Burch; father-in-law, Norm Buchanan; a brother, Larry Burch; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Morris and Nick Johnson.

Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014. Funeral services will be held Thursday,. December 18 at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Robert J. Mackmer, pastor of the Belfast Free Methodist Church officiating. Memorials may be made to the Friendship Free Library, Main St. Friendship, NY 14739.
