John William Greenlee

John William Greenlee, 44, of Tacoma, Washington, died as the result of a Scuba diving accident at the Olympia National Park in Port Angeles, WA. Born February 22, 1968 in Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC, he was the son of William A. Greenlee and Josephine Leighton Tyler.

John grew up in Caneadea and attended elementary School in Belfast, then attended Houghton Academy through his Junior year of High School. John served in the Navy, where he graduated from high school during boot camp, class of 1986.

After traveling around the country, he eventually settled in the state of Washington, where he drove truck across country until the present time.

He enjoyed traveling in the wilderness, scuba diving and motorcycles. He loved making some of his own diving equipment and working on his motorcycle which he road coast to coast in 2010.

As a child he was baptized in the Belfast 1st Baptist Church.

Surviving are his mother, Josephine Leighton Tyler of Friendship, NY; two sisters, Elizabeth Greenlee- Coniglio (Vincent) of Morristown, NJ, and Patricia Jo Tyler- Cornelius of Fairport, NY; a step sister, Phyllis Tyler Sanders (Donald) of Brookhaven, MS; a step brother, Stephan J. Tyler of Fredonia, NY; several nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and adoptive grandmother, Elsie Trites DuVal of Belfast, NY.

John was pedeceased by his step father, Richard M. Tyler.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Treusdell Funeral Home 65 Main St. Belfast on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 7:00 pm. The Rev. Joe Merrill, pastor of the Belfast 1st Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in Caneadea Cemetery, Caneadea. Memorials may be made to Belfast or Houghton Rescue Squad.
