Leta M. McCarthy, 92, of 31 Broughton Ct., Tonawanda passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Highland Healthcare Center, Wellsville following a lengthy illness. Born January 7, 1921 in Friendship, she was the daughter of Jay B. and Lena Hilliard Goff. On November 17, 1939 in Friendship, she married Edward V. McCarthy who predeceased her on January 4, 1965.
Leta grew up in Friendship and graduated from Friendship Central School, class of 1939. For several years she was a waitress at the New Home Hotel in Friendship. In 1970 she moved to Tonawanda and was waitress at Curdells Resturant for a few years and then at Kosteks Resturant for several years retiring from there.
Leta enjoyed crocheting and loved being with her family.
She was a member of the Friendship Legion Auxiliary Post # 1168 and and a member of the Friendship Fireman's Auxiliary.
Surviving are three sons, Michael J. McCarthy of Friendship, Daniel V. McCarthy of Buffalo, and William W. McCarthy of Cuba;
three daughters, Patricia A. Bernard of N. Tonawanda, Katherine McCraken of Friendship, and Linda L. (Ralph) Mastracci of N. Tonawanda;
15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Leta was predeceased by a son, James J. McCarthy; four brothers, Ernest Goff, George Goff, Versal Goff and William goff; and two sisters, Hazel Jennings and Beatrice Coon.
