Thelma Gretchen Sadler

Thelma Gretchen Sadler, 83, of 7 Elm St. passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Jones Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. Born May 12, 1935 in Belmont, she was the daughter of Volney and Thelma Stryker Davenport. On July 3, 1955, in Scio, she married Kenneth P. Sadler, who predeceased her on February 13, 1996.

Thelma had grown up in the Town of Amity and Graduated from Scio Central School, class of 1953. After her marriage to Kenneth, she moved to Texas where she went to school to become an LPN. She was in nursing for the next thirty years. She returned to New York State in 1996.

She enjoyed church, reading her bible, crocheting, all kinds of crafts and spent many hours on the telephone talking to friends and family. Most of all she loved her family and friends and spending time with them. She would always say “Hi Kid, doesn’t matter how old you are, Squish it squish it-hug It, hug it-love it, love it-kiss it, kiss it.”

She was a member of the Olean United Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel E. Sadler and Donald L. (Kassie) Sadler both of Kilgore, Texas; three daughters, Beth Brewer of Friendship, Becky (Lee) Veazey of Dallas, Texas and Kathy S. (Mike) Sadler of Friendship; 18 grandchildren, many great great grandchildren, and a great great great granddaughter; a brother, Volney Davenport of Belmont; two sisters, Marion Rounds and Wanita Barr both of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma was predeceased by a son, Paul Sadler Jr.; a sister, Kathryn Davenport; three brothers, Frank (Bud) Davenport, Henry Davenport and Billy Davenport; a granddaughter, Jessica Sadler; a grandson, Donald Joseph Sadler; a great granddaughter, Karicia Villanueva; and a great grandson, Noah Sadler.

Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday, February 4, 2019. Funeral and committal services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Olean United Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Steven Beattie, Pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Belmont.
