William “Bill” Rollo

William "Bill" Rollo, 87, of 4192-B Bolivar Rd. , passed away Monday, September 22, 2014 at Hart Comfort House, following a brief illness. Born in Buffalo, NY, on February 16, 1927, he was the son of William Hood and Charlotte Mortimer Rollo. On February 27, 1951 in South Dakota he married the former Mary Alice Burg who predeceased him on September 25, 2013.

Bill grew up in Buffalo, and served in the Army Air Force during WW2 and flew 25 missions over Europe as a bombardier in the 369-bomb squadron of the 306th bomb group. For his service he was awarded the air medal with oak clusters. Upon returning from the service he made his home in Friendship In 1958; he founded Mite-E-Lite Manufacturing Co. of Wellsville. In 1962 the Co. was purchased by McCulloch Corp. At which time, Bill became president of McCulloch Mite-Lite- Inc. Division.

In 1976 on his retirement from McCulloch, Bill became vice president and general manager of Briggs and Stratton, automotive lock division.

Retiring in 1987, he became the director and executive board member of the Trico Co. of Buffalo. He was also a member of the board of directors of the First Union Trust Co. Bank of Wellsville; life long member of the Presbyterian Church and had served as director of the Presbyterian Homes of Western NY. 1n 1990 he was one of the original founders of the ROMEOS Club of Olean meeting at the Beef and Barrel Restaurant in Olean once a week. In 2004 he established the Walter Taber Memorial Trust for the benefit of the Friendship community. He was a member of the Friendship American Legion Post # 1168.

Bill enjoyed bike riding, sailing and listening to jazz music, but most of all loved socializing with anyone who would listen to his stories.

Surviving are many special friends.

Bill was predeceased by his parents; his wife Mary Alice; three sons, James Rollo, John Rollo and William Rollo; and a brother James Rollo.

Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship, Saturday September 27, 2014 1:00 to 3:00 pm with funeral services held immediately following visitations at 3:00 pm. The Rev. Ralph Eastlack of Wellsville will officiate and burial with full military honors will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walter Taber Memorial, Friendship American Legion Post # 1168. Depot St. Friendship, NY 14739.
